Why mine at all?
If you can't grow it you have to mine it. Take a look at a simple everyday lead pencil. The wood and the rubber come from a tree. The lead (graphite) is a mineral and the brass clip at the top is a mixture of copper and zinc; all three are mined. So a pencil is partially mined and partially grown. Your mobile phone, laptop and car are all partially mined and partially grown. The important step is to ensure the process of mining is balanced to the long term sustainability of the environment.
